About us

The CBI is an independent, business-funded organisation covering the full spectrum of business interests from manufacturing to services. Members include both individual companies - multinationals as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) - and 150 sector organisations. In addition to Beijing, the CBI has international offices in Brussels and Washington, which enables us to have excellent access and influence in the key European institutions and with US policy makers. We also have well-established networks and links in all the major markets where UK companies have interests.

The CBI: the voice of business

Established in 1965, the CBI represents more than 240,000 companies, employing one-third of the United Kingdom's (UK) private sector workforce. The CBI is the largest lobbying organisation in the UK, with 13 offices covering London and the UK regions. With the increasing importance of globalisation, the CBI is extending its international reach.

The CBI's role in China

The CBI's China office was established in 2006 to advance the interests of its member companies in China. It is a uniquely positioned business organisation, drawing on the resources and expertise of the CBI's China Policy Unit in the UK, as well as those of its international offices in Brussels and Washington.

International Offices

To ensure that the CBI remains close to and responsive to its members, wherever they are located, we have 13 regional offices in the UK and three international offices.

The CBI in the United Kingdom

In the UK, we have offices in 13 distinct geographical areas. The regions covered include Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, North West, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, Thames Valley, South West, and South East. In each office, the CBI's local director and a small team ensure that members have opportunities to be involved in consultations on policy and to hear from CBI policy experts and, if appropriate, local MPs and ministers on how government action will affect them.
